Deconstructing the Coliseum, promoting civil government school system abolition.
In Alabama this past legislative session a good thing happened. Senate Bill 38 – labeled SB38 – was signed into law by the Governor. This is a victory for Alabama citizens, as it expands home education freedom. The Bill has many provisions, including one that acknowledges express homeschooling as a bona fide legal option. It used to be the case that homeschooling in Alabama meant partnering with a church – as a parent was unable to teach his or her child directly because that mode was unacknowledged by the state; but now home education can be strictly home schooling.
SB38 is a huge step forward for express home schooling. It decreases the burdens on parents, as they can simply home school without having to bend over backwards to find a legally creative way to comply with state law just to be able to teach the Christian worldview.
What has not been talked about though is the likelihood that many students will leave the civil government school system simply because it is now easier to do so; after all, it is cheaper to home school than it is to enroll a child in a private school. This creates a problem for the civil government school system leaders: as humanists they are always unwilling to relinquish control over the ability to force humanism on others. Once more students leave the civil government school system, the system will lose millions in funding. Now the citizens of Alabama need to get that money back by voting for lower taxes.
Finally, note that Senate Bill 38 does not grant the express right to private education. God grants the express right to private education – as the Lord commands us to always be teaching (according to Deuteronomy 6 & 11) and the Lord prohibits the civil government (according to Romans 13) from jurisdiction over the heart and mind.
