Deconstructing the Coliseum, the organization that promotes civil government school system abolition.

The weather was fabulous this past weekend, so I went for a walk in the downtown area where near I live. I happened to see something so profound I wrote it down using the notebook and pencil I always make sure to have with me in case I notice something like that which I noticed. It was spray-painted graffiti, which was unremarkable. What was remarkable was the message itself: “Those who criticize our generation forget who raised it.” Isn’t that profound? “Those who criticize our generation forget who raised it.” This should be especially profound to Christians, who should walk around with a productive warning that we are always only one generation removed from Christianity being completely forgotten.

Before noting the profundity in my notebook, I thought about what is often called The Greatest Generation. Lately I have wondered – not concluded but just wondered – how great that generation really was, considering their children are now in charge in Washington, DC – the liberal’s high place. But to assert that “Those who criticize our generation forget who raised it” is absolutely true. Now it is also true that as a parent I really only have so much time – and that time is used teaching my own children. Not every parent has the time to teach a child whose own parent neglected teaching him or her.

But I get something else out of the graffiti I read: that we must teach our children. Doesn’t that sound obvious? But that means teaching them – actively and always – about everything from science to sports to sex. Everything – from the Christian perspective. How else are they going to know what is right unless you expressly teach them what is right?

I say lovingly and respectfully, put down the remote control and turn off the TV. Go teach your child. Otherwise you have no right to criticize the generation that you failed to raise.
